Collage is one of the most diverse and liberating creative practices that essentially everyone can explore. It helps train our eye’s compositional skills whilst developing our visual communication and storytelling. The process of making collage can even help us overcome creative blocks when we are stuck for inspiration, therefore this workshop is perfect for anyone with a creative interest including visual artists, photographers and creative designers and writers!

Throughout this workshop, we will explore themes of nature, wildlife and travel, as we welcome the changing of the season into Autumn. Taking inspiration from a variety of contemporary collage styles, we will experiment with colour, composition and form by using a collection of recycled and found materials. This workshop will take a glance at the ways in which collage is used in commercial sectors, from book illustration, package design, album covers etc.

You are very welcome to bring some 2D items of your own if you have something you’d like to incorporate. This workshop is suitable for beginners and seasoned collagists who want to explore the process of collage further.

About your instructor:

Freya Saleh is a fine artist working primarily in the practice of painting, drawing and collage. Her works explore the nature of visual phenomena such as light, shadow, colour and depth, she is particularly interested in the relationship between the mental image vs the physical medium.
